The solution

As the final touches were made to a barn conversion, I helped a young family shape their outdoor space into a garden that felt like a natural extension of their home. Borders, pathways, and lawn were carefully planned to complement the scale of their home, while trees and tall grasses added height and structure. Resilient cottage‑style planting brought seasonal colour and texture, thriving in the sunny, south‑facing plot and framing views of The Fens beyond. Designed with busy family life in mind, the scheme offers beauty, biodiversity, and ease of care.

“From the design stage, where Lizzie listened carefully to what I wanted, through to planting day, when she ensured everything was placed perfectly, she has been brilliant to work with. She also saved me from wasting a fortune on a poorly planned garden and plants that wouldn’t thrive!”

The solution

The University of Lincoln wanted to establish a Peace Garden for their wider community and invited me to design the planting that would bring the contemplative atmosphere they imagined to life. I produced 3D visuals and worked closely with the committee to shape a design that reflected their vision. Together with the community, we brought the garden to life, and we were all delighted when the project was commended at the Lincolnshire Environmental Awards in 2024.

“Lizzie has made the Peace Garden a delightful area to sit, meditate and enjoy the tranquillity of the garden. Most plants are happy without human intervention and the garden is wonderfully self-sustaining”

The solution

When my clients neared completion of their dream new home, they commissioned me to design both the front and rear gardens. Their brief was for spaces that were easy to maintain, fun, and full of colour. I combined evergreen topiary and ornamental grasses with long‑flowering plants in contrasting colours, creating a scheme that complements the interior of the house. I continue to support my clients through my aftercare package, helping them gain confidence in caring for their garden as it flourishes.

“We are absolutely delighted with our beautiful new gardens, all expertly designed by Lizzie. Every day is a joy, going out to explore what has changed and what wonderful new things have appeared.”

The solution

This border sits furthest from the house but is passed every day, so impact was important. The clients wanted a ‘plant‑and‑forget’ scheme with minimal aftercare just a few times a year. South‑facing and without easy access to water, it needed to be highly drought‑tolerant. I helped the clients select a mix of evergreen shrubs, long‑flowering plants rich in nectar, and trees to blur the boundary. I encouraged the use of the No‑Dig Method, laying cardboard over the existing grass and topping it with compost and organic matter, to create a border that is both low‑maintenance and environmentally beneficial.

“Lizzie encouraged us to take an environmentally friendly approach by using the No‑Dig Method to create the border, which made installation simple and straightforward. We only tend to it a couple of times a year, and it always brings a smile when we drive past”
